DO YOU FEEL MORE SHOULD BE DONE AT TIMBERCREEK TO ENSURE OUR SAFETY, OR ARE WE TOO CAUTIOUS?

Can We Make Campuses Safer?
By Julie Rawe
In the wake of the Columbine massacre, which took place eight years ago this week, many high schools across the country installed metal detectors. Most universities, however, didn't follow suit and they're not likely to even now, after 33 people (including the gunman) were killed at Virginia Tech on Monday in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
Unlike most elementary and high schools, college campuses are almost by design too sprawling to cordon off. Their layouts have long been intended to reflect higher education's free flow of ideas, and such philosophical openness makes adding metal detectors not only undesirable but also logistically impossible. "Unless," says Mark Meyer, director of sales at metal-detector firm CEIA, "you want to make a campus into a fortress."
And no one — not even campus safety directors — is likely to push for such an outcome. Still, some select parts of campuses have been successfully secured in recent years. Sexual assault and other incidents in college dorms have led many schools to control access to these buildings by giving residents a kind of electronic key, often called a prox card, that can also be used to track the comings and goings of individual students. This technology is starting to spread to academic buildings, but daytime access to classrooms is still largely unrestricted.
In the Virginia Tech massacre, parents and students were outraged that the school took so long to notify people that a gunman was on the loose, and when the announcement was finally made — some two hours after the first reports of gun shots on campus — the warning was delivered silently over email. But technology exists that could have sent more students inside, behind locked doors, much sooner. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is one of 10 schools that is using Digital Acoustics' high-tech intercom system, which can immediately broadcast a message to a single classroom or to the entire campus or to any combination in between.
Johns Hopkins University is using cutting-edge technology — every few weeks, campus safety officers from yet another school come by to check out the new system — which places "smart" video cameras around campus that rely on computer algorithms to detect suspicious activity. The university is about to install another camera, bringing the total to 102 on its main Homewood campus, that will alert a security officer if it films someone climbing up a fence, walking down an alley late at night or lingering by a windowsill. But, says a Johns Hopkins spokesman, the software is not yet able to pick out whether a person is carrying a gun.
Sophisticated technology doesn't come cheap, and neither do highly trained campus security officers. In the past, says Steven Healy, public safety director at Princeton University, campus security officers have had to fight for limited resources at many schools by "asking people to imagine the unimaginable."
But even if Monday's events help loosen purse strings, security systems are improving at such a rapid pace that schools aren't sure how much to buy. "When do you say stop?," asks Healy, who is also president of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators. "We don't want to create fortresses."
He and others stress the need for more highly trained officers. "But how many boots do you put on the ground?" Healy asks. "You can't assign an officer to every student."
Some schools like Princeton train professors how to spot signs of depression, and access to mental-health services is a big part of preventive efforts on many campuses. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to tell someone if they see suspicious or troubling activity. Says Gene Burton, public safety director at Ball State University: "You need to get everyone on board." But as colleges and universities learned on Monday, it often takes a tragedy to expose just how many weaknesses there are in the system.

I do think our school should do to prevent the Columbine massacre & Virginia Tech happening again. I do not think we are over reacting I actually think we are under reacting for the fact that were not doing a lot to prevent it. WE can't just sit here not thinking nothing is going to happen because of where we live and that we should indeed "imagine the unimaginable."

Yes, more should be done at timber creek because there might be alot going around that is unknown. Im not saying that we need A LOT at this school but we do need just a little bit more. Honestly Timber Creek isnt a school that has a lot of bad people or anything like that, but there probably is a few somewhere. And for that few we need atleast 3 more officers cause ive only seen 1 or 2 at this school.

THIS ARTICLE WAS VERY INTERESTING ... I AM GOING TO START OFF BY A QUOTE AT THE END OF THE ARTICLE BY GENE BURTON. "IT OFTEN TAKES A TRAGEDY TO EXPOSE JUST HOW MANY WEAKNESSES THERE ARE IN A SYSYEM." JUST THAT, MEANS ALOT. THE SCHOOL SYSTEM THESE DAYS EXPECT THE STUDENTS TOO LET THE SCHOOL KNOW WHEN THERE IS GOING TO BE A FIGHT, OR WHEN THERE IS A WEAPON AT SCHOOL, OR EVEN WHEN SOMEONE IS IN DEPRESSION. KIDS THESE DAYS WILL NOT SAY ANYTHING! THINKING THAT THEY WILL IS A BIG MISTAKE. PROTECTION WITH MEATAL DETECTORS WILL NOT SOLVE THE FIGHTS OR THE DEPRESSION THAT KIDS FEEL. NOR WILL SECURTY. I DON'T THINK ANYTHING WILL SOLVE THESE PROBLEMS BECAUSE MOST OF THESE PROBLEMS START AT SCHOOL. ANYTHING THAT THE SCHOOLS BOARD COMES UP WILL HELP BUT THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A WEEKNESS THAT THEY WILL IGNORE. CAN WE TRY TO STOP THINGS?... YES, BUT WILL THEY ALWAYS WORK?... NO.IN MY OPINION I DON'T THINK WE CAN DO ANYMORE TO HELP PROTECT US ANYMORE THAN WE ALREADY HAVE. CONFLICTS WILL STILL HAPPEN. WE CAN SPEND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ON TECNOLOGY THAT WILL ONLY NOTIFY US.WHATEVER WE DO THEY WILL STILL HAPPEN IN SCHOOL AND OUT OF SCHOOL!

In my opinion, I believe that our school is to cautious. We aren't allowed to wear hats because the staff believes that the students may have drugs on them or illegal weapons. We aren't allowed to have bandannas hanging out of our pockets because its gang related though most people at our school, if not all, aren't in any gangs. We aren't allowed to talk on cell phones for no reason at all. There has never been a problem at our school concerning our safety from what I know, and just because other schools in the orange county district have had killings, we lose our privileges.

Fighting at schools is part of a high schoolers life. I can probably safely say that most people would agree with me on that. As long as the fight doesn't turn into a massacre like at Virginia Tech, then I say that we should let students get the fighting out of their systems before they enter the real world and have to deal with things much more difficult than a fight with someone they don't get along with. The metal detectors is wonderful idea; I hear about kids bringing knifes and guns to school all the time on the news. The prox card is another great idea, making sure that someone isn't where they shouldn't be. Fighting at schools is never going to stop, no matter how much punishment the school can give students. At this age, fighting with others is a way for some to get rid of rage, and sending this person to a help group will probably make things worse for that person.

Yeah I think we should do more to make our campus safer. Since we do not have metal detectors and we have no clue if someone has a gun or knife on them. Then in the parking lots they should call some kids out at a time so they can have their cars checked. Then we also need to have locker checks. So yes I really think we should put some effort to make our school a safer place.

I think that this is a good idea, but then again i dont think its such a good idea. School isnt made to make you feel like youre in a jail. It should never be that way, which in some cases it feels that way now even attending a public school. I think that if schools did this it would cause many problems with parents and students. People would be really complaing about it. I think it might work for Universitys, but not for a public high school.

I always believed that schools needed more technological advancements and more security technology.
But I agree there is a limit as to how far this safety goes.
Obviously assigning military personnel to every students is going extreme(unless you go to SilverStar or another form of juvenile correctional facility).
We can however have state of the art security tech (by state of the art i don't mean primitive retinal scanning) to help protect us.
i specifically have designed numerous State of the Art security systems like an A.I. system that takes your DNA signature, extrapolates the genetic data, then compares it to a digital genetic database. if the DNA doesn't match anything in the database it will place you in a holding cell where you will wait while it notifies the proper owner(s),police,Government authorities(F.B.I.,D.o.D.,C.I.A,etc).
Of course this is primitive compared to the security systems i have designed a few years ago.
We need security systems that take action not just record who got away.
We also want them to be non-invasive(who wants a Digital scanning eye staring at them all day?)

i think that we are safe enough with the security that we have already. there hasnt really been anything serious issues in timber creek yet and there probably wont be one. all we have here are fights and they are nothing compared to a massacre but if there are threats that may lead to one then that is when we will need more security . so i think that where we are doing good and need less security it makes some people feel safe and feel that they are trusted. plus with too much security it will feel more like a prison and not a school which will make people uncomfortable.

Haha, I almost think this is funny. This kinda stuff is almost happening daily. Which is horrible. People need to learn from others mistakes. Massacres happening, children going missing, kidnaps, rapes. Dang, every school has it all. I think that while were at school, we should feel protected. Yet, most of us do not. We don't know what the kid beside us has in his backpack, if it's drugs, a pocketknife, you know. And it's frightening. The schools should definitely be more involved. No, i'm not saying you set up our school like its LAX or something, metal dectectors, backpack checks. But just be more cautious about this kinda stuff. People are crazy. America should reflect on that.

I think we have done plenty to ensure safety of students at TCHS. I wouldnt want to go through the hassle of a metal detector every day i came to school. Would you also want to have to worry about a camera video taping you all day? That would bother me more than the metal detector. It would drive me nuts being scared to do any thing going to the bathroom would even be weird having someone watch you go in and come back out. I think they are going way over board with security lately. A kid has to do what kids do thats it plain and simple if it bothers you then get over it.

No matter what, there are always going to be crazy people who bring guns to schools. It's inevitable. No matter how many security guards or cameras you have around. Some people in this world are just crackheads. I hate it that people think that just because we get better technology, that it's gonna change who people are. It just doesn't add up.

Honestly, I actually DO think more should be done at Timber Creek to ensure safety. Over this past week, there has already been more than a handful of fights, and I say one fight is already one to many. Having that much safety isn't all that bad. I'd rather come to school safe and secure than always be on high alert about what might happen. However, to me, it sounds great to have all that safety, schools shouldn't really over do it. Getting all the technology and guards to help is good and all, but just having an immense amount is a waste of money, which could be used for other school supplies.

Obviously the school can't be the absolute safest place in the world if it was every student, teacher, faculty member would be in a straight jacket. Although Safety is the most IMPORTANT. It isn't guaranteed because there are so many different personalities, thoughts, beliefs, religions, standards, morals, etc.. that are mixed into one sachool that there is no humanly possible way to watch over all this behavior. No matter how many precautions taken there will always be something that slips through the cracks. I believe that TCHS is doing there best to keep the drama under wraps.

DO FEEL MORE SHOULD BE DONE AT TIMBERCREEK TO ENSURE OUR SAFETY, OR ARE WE TOO CAUTIOUS?

I think that more could always be done at our school, Timber Creek to ensure our safety or any school for that matter. The tragedies at Columbine and Virginia tech were unexpected, you never know when something like that could happen. But by using todays technology to be proactive and protective it could definatley help make our school more safe.

I think that Timber Creek High School staff is already trying to prevent things like that
(violenece, massacre). But never is to much, if they could put more video cameras or things that make us feel more safety is better than anything or not that much. What I'm trying to say is that you never know when a tragedy is going to happen. Is better to be prepare. You dont know when someone have a problem and he feel bad and just for revenge they do stuff that can be really sad. My opinion is that they should put like a weapon detectors, because the person that you never think that is going to do a stupid thing is the one who has the weapon or stuff that can do damage. But I dont mean like a jail or something like that, but yes some stuff that TCHS does not have are really important. The money that they receive they should spended on safety at least 50% (percent) and the other percent in whatever they want.

All this is pretty crazy. I do agree with this and i also dont. And im glad they are paying attention to this more heavily. I mean after that Virginia shooting I would defidently look forward to changing things. I dont really agree with metal detectors and like scanners and stuff. Kids are supposed to feel safe and stuff, not like some jail or something. Id o think that they should increase the number of security and administrators. Not anything heavy.

I think there should be more done to help stop violence not only in TCHS but everywhere. But it probably isnt gonna happen anytime soon. Sure it would be nice to have those kind of cameras but by the time they do spot some tension boom someone might be dead already. come on what teachers are gonna pay that much details into there students. I think this would be a great idea but at the dame time I think its not the greatest idea. I think it is because knowing that you can prevent less altercations can be a great thing but on the other side of everything, that using camera's in school isn't either. I think that part wouldn't be so good because it can cause problems beyond students and won't allow us students to socialize like how we want without someone looking at your very move.

Timber Creek Should enforce more security for it's students because although we might think we are safe enough something could happen unexpectedly, Although Timber Creek High School has been fortunate in the past and now we can never be to safe to protect the lives of the kids that go to school here. Like the article says "IT OFTEN TAKES A TRAGEDY TO EXPOSE JUST HOW MANY WEAKNESSES THERE ARE IN A SYSYEM." Although nothing very tragic has happend at our school, that does not mean that nothing is possible. We should'nt wait for a death to occur at OUR school to start enforcing more secruity, especially when we have the opportunity to do something about it now.

I think that our school does enough, there is always administrators walking around campus or security guards roaming around aimlessly. That helps a lot because it scares some people out of doing stuff because they know that "someone" is always watching. Usually other kids tell an administrator if something ever does happen that shouldn't. I was reading a couple of the other responses and i totatlly agree with jennifer (same class) because she makes a really good point about other people doing something wrong and then we get punished for it, i think thats bs! If there is more technology that needs to be added because of threats or whatever then so be it but i don't want our whole world turning into a walking talking computer. everything will be robotic and eventually so will the students and teachers. make it safe but not overprotective!

I believe that more should be done not just in TCHS but in other schools. Then again it's not meant for someone to feel like they're in jail while in school. Maybe put a little more survalance or officers would improve the situation.By doing so the fights could be broken up faster. Not only that but if the students are in danger, they should make announcements as soon as possible not after something bad has happened.

Every public high school has issues that involve with weapons. There are going to be people who will bring pocket knives and crap and wont be caught because it probraly happens very often. Timber creek also isnt nearly as bad as schools like colonial, university and a few others involving trouble.

I don't think that our school is doing enough to ensure our safety. We barely have anything except for administrators walking around watching the students. But you never know what they bring into the campus. We can't wait for something trajic to happen for us to realize that we need to do more to be safe. We can't wait until someone gets stabbed or shot because we could have prevented that. So like the article said putting a few metal detectors up or something won't do anything but help.

I actually think that we really shouldn't do anything to improve our school's security. First of all, let's face it people... with all the damn budget cuts, do you really think that we'll be able to afford better security technologies, if the county can't EVEN afford to pay a full staff of teachers? -_-
I think the best thing that we can do is to educate the students at the school about safety and tell them if they see anything suspicious, to contact a teacher or an adult immediately. Most of the time students who are going to do something malicious either tell someone or give many clues and hints in body language and behavior. For example, in the Virginia Tech Massacre, Seung-Hui Cho[the shooter], displayed very erractic behavior like setting his dorm room on fire, he also wrote very violent and disturbing plays and papers[*hint, hint* he is OBVIOUSLY crazy].
Right now, i think that the situation at Timber Creek High School is as controlled as it's ever going to get. I think that no matter what we do to improve security at the school, there are always going to be fights, and the drugs will somehow always remain undetected.

I think that timber creek ned more security on everything and specialy on what students bring to school like for example drugs or weapons. We cant risk anything bad happening at school because there will be many students with there lives at stake and there are not many teachers or cops patroling around the school. We need more guards that could keep a eye on what students do everyday on school we also need security cameras to patrol the hallways on school at anytime. Yes i do thing that we need more security in our school and in all school across the u.s. because anything bad can happen at a momments notice without knowing it.

I think the coolest technology was the heated body temp. one....it shows waht creative minds we have today. Also Timbercreek does have fights but not as much violence as needed for these technologies....so, if it was up to me i would take a vote by the students to determine if these devices are needed.

I THINK THAT TIMBERCREEK REALLY NEEDS TO HAVE MORE BETTER SECURITY BECAUSE I DONT REALLY FEEL SAFE AT TIMBERCREEK EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE LIKE TWO OFFICERS WE NEED TO HAVE AT LEAST TWO GUARDS AT EACH HALLWAY DOOR TO MAKE SURE THAT NO ONE FROM OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL CAN GRAB A STUDENT AND RAPE THEM OR LIKE KID NAP THEM YOU KNOW, I ALSO THINK THAT WE SHOULD HAVE A METAL DETECTOR TO MAKE SURE THAT NO STUDENTS HAS ANY CIGGARETTE LIGHTERS, OR GUNS, PISTOLS ETC. I THINK THAT WE SHOULD HAVE A SHERIFF DOG THAT WOULD SMELL EVERYONES BAGS TO SEE IF THEY HAVE ANY DRUGS, COCAINE, MARAWANA, ECT SO THAT THEY CANT PERPRESSURE ANYONE TO DO IT WITH THEM AND IT CAN ALSO KILL THAT PERSON THAT IS FOLLOWING THEM AND IF WE GET THE GUARD DOG FOR OUR SCHOOL IT WILL BE A BIG WAY OF PREVENTNG PERPRESSURE, DRUG ABUSE, SAVING PEOPLES LIVES, AND HELPING ECONOMY. I THINK THAT WE SHOULD PLAN WAYS THAT WE CAN PREVENT CURTAIN STUDENTS FROM FIGHTING, ARGUEING, FORCING EACHOTHER TO DO THINGS THAT THEY DONT WANT TO DO. LIKE IF A GIRL DOESNT WANT TO HAVE SEX WITH A CURTAIN GUYS AND THAT GUY FORCES HER THEN IT WILL GET HER PREGNANT AND MESS UP HER LIFE OF SCHOOL AND EDUCATION. LIKE MY COUSIN EMILY SHIVMANGAL THAT GOES TO SCHOOL IN TAMPA SHE FOLLOWED HER BOYFRIEND AND CUT SCHOOL AND WENT TO HAVE SEX WITH HER BOYFRIEND AT HER HOUSE IN HER MOMS ROOM BY THEN NO ONE WAS HOME THEN SHE HEARD MY AUNT TRYING TO OPEN THE KITCHEN DOOR AND THEN SHE TOLD HER BOYFRIEND TO HIDE UNDER HER BED AND SHE QUICKLY GOT DRESSED AND OPENED THE DOOR AND TOLD HER MOM THAT SHE GOT OUT OF SCHOOL EARLY BY THE PRINCIPLE, THEN HER MOM CALLED SCHOOL AND SCHOOL TOLD HER SHE IS LIEING THEN HER MOM SAID TO HER WHAT REALLY HAPPENED EMILY DIDNT ANSWER THEN SHE SAID THAT NOTHING HAPPENED THEN HER MOM PUSHED ONTO THE CHAIR AND WENT INTO HER ROOM AND LOOKED AROUND THEN CHECKED UNDER HER BED AND SAW EMILYS BOYFRIEND THEIR AND GRABBED HIM BY HIS EAR AND TOLD HIM TO GET OUT OF HER SITE, THEN HE RAN HOME AND HIS PARENTS FOUND OUT AFTER HER MOM CALLED THEM AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND THEY SAID SORRY IT WONT HAPPEN AGAIN BECAUSE HE IS GOING TO BE SENT FOR ADOPTION. SO SAID SO DONE LOL SO EMILY MOM HAD A TALK WITH HER AND TOLD HER TO GET DRESSED THAT SHE IS GOING TO TAKE HER TO THE DOCTOR. THEN SHE DRESSED AND WENT WITH HER AND THEY TOOK A PREGNANCY TEST AND IT SAID THAT SHE IS PREGNANT WITH TWO BABIES MY COUSIN HAS BEEN HAVING SEX WITH HER BOYFRIEND FOR A WHOLE MONTH AND NOW HER MOM FOUND OUT ABOUT. SO NOW SHE HAS TO GO TO SCHOOL AND WORK AND TAKE CARE OF HER OWN BABY. SO NOW SHE LEARNED HER OWN LESSON. AND IS GOING OFF TO COLLAGE AND EVERYTHING IS GOING WELL AND SHE IS THINKING OF GIVING HER BABY FOR ABORTION THOUGH BUT SHE DOESNT KNOW WHAT TO DO SO YAH. THATS MY OPINION ON OUR SCHOOL SAFETY. I MEAN EVEN THOUGH WE USE THE CAMERAS AS SAFETY SOME TEACHER S MIGHT USE THEM AS WAYS OF SEXUALLY ABUSING STUDENTS BY LOOKING AT THEM AT THE CAMERA THAT IS IN THE BATHROOM THEN LOOK UP WHAT BATHEROOM THEY ARE IN AND GET THEM YOU KNOW SOME TEACHERS CAN BE CRAZY LIKE THAT.Timber Creek Should enforce more security for it's students because although we might think we are safe enough something could happen unexpectedly, Although Timber Creek High School has been fortunate in the past and now we can never be to safe to protect the lives of the kids that go to school here THAT WHAT I THINK SO I MEAN I HAVE MORE TO SAY BUT I HAVE TO GO TO THE DOCTOR . LATAS MR WILSON.

I do believe more should be done about keeping our schools safe. But the fact of the matter is kids won't change. School for many kids is about keeping their reputation very high so other kids won't disrespect them. And to do this, violence is needed, which is very sad. Many kids bully others or just pick fights to act tough in order to earn respect which I've seen first hand. Schools should really have more teachers out in the campus to watch out for such activities.

I do believe that our school could do more to keep the campus safe. But i also think that we are just fine without the extra help of metal detectors. Plus i think that spending all that extra money that we most likely dont have, keeping in mind we can't even afford a class set of books in each class is just pointless. I'm sure there will be fights every once in a while. But that is just the way high school works. And most of the causes of the fights are because we are overstuffed. and they are already building a shool to fix that problem. So i don't think that we are to cautious or we need more to be done. I think the campus is just fine the way it is.

i think that timber creek is safe enough but if we had the technology in the article it could help also.
but it will cost us
in the article it says that the technologies are costly so in that case kids would have to start paying to go to school and they would be spending more money on the technology then on the school like the supplies and stuff for the students and teachers
and we have staff teachers and administrators that walk around the school alot during the day so that helps too... and i mean get more cameras but not spend a bunch of money on all this technology it could hurt the school

"IT OFTEN TAKES A TRAGEDY TO EXPOSE JUST HOW MANY WEAKNESSES THERE ARE IN A SYSTEM." when I read this last quote from Gene Burton, i thought this was a very true quote it takes a tragedy to show how weak our school is.I think more should be done in our school we can prevent many fights, and shootings, or stabbings at school if we just took some time out to get more security around schools.Teenagers are expect to tell when a fight is going to happen or when someone has a gun in the pocket, but we don't we just sit there and let it happen so it would be better to have better systems in our schools trying to protect us from what we don't know. yes i agree with making better security for timber creek.

Yes, i do think we should have better security systems at our school it will save us the worry and the trouble we go through trying to make sure our lives are going to be safe through out the day. i don't think anybody wants what happen in Virgina tech to happen at our school I'm not saying it will but you cant predict the future so you never know. it would be best to be safe than sorry so maybe medal detectors or people checking us wouldn't be such a bad thing after all its saving our lives.

I beleive that Timber Creek should have these sensors so that they know when a student is upset or not. To have this new tech would deffenently help decrease the number of students attacking one another, before a fight happens. It can also stop students going to places that they are not suppose to go to in school. It might also help depict those students that were "Home Sick" from school to those who were actually home sick. If each student receives a "prox card" as their I.D. card and tell everyone that their will be random checks in their first through six (or seven) periods.

I Dont think putting metal detectors at our school is going to make much Of a difference because if students really want to bring inappropiate things to school they will find a way to sneak it in. Having more security guards at school would probably keep the violence down a bit. But no matter what the school puts kids are still going to start fights. I think that having the teachers know when a student is fustrated is a good idea, teachers will keep an eye On that person to see what they will do. But i dont think they should have someone watch him or her throught Out the whole day. To me that would be pretty scary, and think about it what if they're just mad and not going to start anything. I just think that if they hear Or see things getting suspicious between students at school they deff need to keep an eye On them to prevent someone getting killed like it did at UHS.If they know two or more kids dont get along they should keep an eye on them because you never know what that person is capable Of doing.

i think that our school should put the metal detecters so that no one can bring in and weapons and things to hurt people, but i think besides that, they are 2 over protective, like with ipods, cells, and hats. I dont see how they are anything bad.And for the drugs they should like hav a xray with the metal detecter so they could see whos bringing in anything. and they should put more cops to better control fights when they go on.

i think at are school is not that bad but with more security it my be less fights but kids are going to find a place were there is no security there but the bad schools should have metal detecters to so if the have weapons or be pated down to be check for thing like kids bring guns to school and shoting kids like one school or vt
but ni matter what things are going to happen

I think that are school is ok with the security but they are too strict. For any little stupid thing we can get in trouble. I also think that the more strict the rules get the more are going to try and break them.

I think that timber creek is doing all they can to make this school safe. I mean we could go over board with the whole thing and have gaurds in every hallway and people in stray jackets, but then that wouldnt be so cool. part of life is making mistakes and fixing them in the future so we wont make the same mistke. The school would be so ackward and strange if no body was fighting or threating to do certain things. I mean dont get me wrong it would be safer but Its part of what goes on in life at school.
I would mined going through metal detectors everyday. Seriously its annoying going through metal detectors at airports. i mean if it was really nessisary to go all out with it and making this school safer than it has to be then be my guest. but i think timber creek is just fine the way it is.
But for the new high school coming soon they might want to put that school in check with all the diversity, different personality, nationalitys, beliefs and judgment they might want it to be more safer in that school.

My opinion about all of this is kinda both ways. I think timbercreek does a great job in keeping the students safe.Although i think that they can be a little hard on us sometimes. But I know they are just trying to prevent something bad happening at the school. I think what happen in VA tech was horrible and would never want that to happen at any school. But i know timbercreek does a good job making sure that wont happen.

OKKK I THINK ITS A GOOD THOUGHT TO TRY TO MAKE THE SCHOOLS A BETTER PLACE ND IT DOES NEED TO BE DONE
BUT ITS NOT GONNA CHANGE CERTAIN THINGS
YEA METAL DETECTORS COULD STOP KIDS FROME BRINGING WEAPONS
BUT ITS NOT GONNA STOP THE DRAMA THAT STILL HAPPENS IN THE SCHOOLS AND THE SADNESS THAT GOES ON IN KIDS LIFES
AND I KNO THERES COUNSELORS AT THE SCHOOLS TO HELP YOUU BUT ITS NOT LIKE MIDDLE SCHOOL WHEN THERES ONLY A COUPLE HUNDRED::THERES THOUSANDS OF KIDS IN HIGH SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES AND DO YOUU REALLY THINK THE COUNSELORS ARE GONNA REMEMBER YOUR PROBLEM WHEN ANOTHER THOUSAND KIDS ARE TELLING THEM THERE PROBLEMS TO.NO. AND ALSO YOUU BARELY KNO THEM ND I WOULDNT TELL SOME ONE I DONT KNO MY PROBLEMS

I think we actually may need a little bit more of security beacuse anything could happen unexpectedly. Timber Creek is not exactly one of the worst school but it could have his problems. I mean in Timber Creek and other schools they could have fights but that something you can't stop forever. Is going to keep going once in while. There's other kinds problems going on that's why we need a little bit of more security.

I think our school does need a little more security and metal detectors and bag check, can help this problem. I mean our school isnt that bad, but any student on our campus could have a gun and no one would stop him or notice it. Whereas, if there were metal detectors or bag checks, that kid would get busted. It's scary when you walk in the hallway or witness a fight, because you never know when a student could pull out a weapon. Also who knows, who could walk on our campus that can be dangerous, like in the case of the Virginia Tech massacre. Were all pretty much clueless about what each student has in their bag, but increasing the security wouldnt make that an issue. Our saftey is at risk.

i think that we are to coutious. we have to tone it down a bit. insted of having security gurds every where we should have a more creative prosses like undercover students or somethng like that here and there not every where. we should just not let almost all the teachers walk the halls during the time that we change classes. insted they could just stand outside of the class room door not beteween the halls and in the court yard. in doing that the kids dont feel so sufecated and scard to do stuff

I think this article was very intresting because I am in highschool and it relates to me. I do not believe Timber Creek has enough security guards on campus. Timber Creek is not a bad school and does not have a lot of violence where security guards would be useful. Although, I do think it would be useful to have more scurity personel to ensure our safety. I do not think metal detectors are necessary and I believe they would be a waste of time and money. I think the "smart" video cameras are very vreative and could be very useful. Also, I would prefer them to be installed on our campus to ensure safety and it would make students less likely of starting trouble.

I think Timber Creek is ok as it is. All high schools have fights. It is how highschools are. It really isn't a big campus, so we do not need that hig-tech systems in our school. Even if we did have high-tech sytems in our school, it would take a while to get into school campus. For example, if we had that metal detector it would take for ever to get into campus because you would have to take off your shoes and other things(if you ever flew, you would know the steps). That is my opinion on the saftey of Timber Creek.

TO BE HONEST IDK WHAT TO SAY ON THIS TOPIC. I THINK THAT THE KIDS SHOULD BE PUNISHED BUT NOT AS ADULTS, BUT THEY DO NEED TO BE PUNISHED SO THAT THEY CAN LEARN WHAT THEY DID WAS WRONG. I UNDERSTAND THAT AS THE KIDS OF TOMORROW , THEIR IS ALOT OF VIOLENCE WITH TEENS. BUT THE PROBLEM ALWAYS STARTS WITH THE PARENTS! AS PARENTS YOU SHOULD BE THEIR FOR UR KIDS AND BE SUPPORTIVE. I THINK IF PARENTS ARE MORE UNDERSTANDING THE VIOLENCE RATE WILL ALEAST SLIGHTLY DECREASE. I THINK THE AGE THAT WE HAVE NOW IS APPROPRIATE.
